The French League Cup semi-final between Lyon and Nice was a thrilling match, with both teams playing their hearts out to secure their place in the final. In the end, it was Lyon who emerged victorious, thanks to a penalty shootout win over Nice. The match started off with a bang as Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette put them ahead after just four minutes with a powerful header from a corner kick. However, Nice fought back strongly and equalized through a goal from substitute Anthony Raloumahana in the 29th minute. The second half saw both teams try to find a winner but neither could break down the other's defense. It was only until the 85th minute when Lyon midfielder Kevin Nkoudou scored his first goal of the season to give them a 2-1 lead. In the dying moments of regulation time, Lyon defender Dusan Tadic sent a free-kick towards the far post which ricocheted off the crossbar and into the net, giving Lyon a 3-1 lead going into extra-time. Nice then responded by scoring two goals in the first five minutes of extra-time to level the scores at 3-3. But Lyon held on and were awarded a penalty in the 94th minute after Nice's goalkeeper failed to clear a set-piece. Lyon captain Memphis Depay stepped up to take the penalty and calmly converted it to send Lyon through to the final. It was a closely contested match that went right down to the wire, with both teams showing great skill and determination throughout. Lyon will now face either Lille or Montpellier in the final, while Nice will have to wait for another opportunity to play in a major cup competition next season. |
